1.19 doctor who: the chimes of midnight / robert shearman 2002 ★★★★
utilizes the medium of audio quite well, and impressively. Eight is one of my favorite doctors, and this story is 100% one of his best. i even like it more than many of the televised episodes of doctor who!

watched this with a friend! she's a fellow spring awakening fan, and we had an awesome time. hung out in her dorm room over takeout dinner! elisabeth is one of my favorite musicals ever, and i love showing it to people who haven't watched it before :)

9.20 why fish don't exist / lulu miller 2020 ★★★
9.29 whiplash / damien chazelle 2014 ★★★★★
was right around the time i was reading lacan so i have a whole mommy fletcher conspiracy theory lying around somewhere. don't ask.
i got the disk from the library, too, and watched with commentary. which made me so unwell. favorite quotes include:
> chazelle: and the manipulations a fun part of it…like to what extent were you speaking your mind and to what extent were you luring the lamb back in
> simmons: i dont think the two were mutually exclusive, thats the beauty of it
> simmons: love this shot of paul…such a beautiful dad moment there.. watching his son yknow the monster that has been created and all the levels that makes him feel
> chazelle: oh and heres the replacement dad he comes in and picks miles up when he falls
>chazelle: look at that flicker you do with your hand its..somewhat sexual
> simmons: people occasionally comment on the.. is there an undercurrent of homoeroticism here
> chazelle: undercurrent??
> simmons: …going along with the homophobia is that what thats all about and again it was never conscious on my part but its totally legitimate yknow the way people perceive it
